End Grain or Edge Grain?

End Grain or Edge Grain?

Why Are End Grain Chopping Boards More Expensive?
End grain boards cost more because of how they’re made and how well they perform. Unlike edge grain boards, end grain boards are built with the wood fibres facing up, which requires more time, precision, and skill to cut, align, and glue each block. The result? A board that’s gentler on knives, helps blades stay sharper, and naturally “self-heals” over time. Edge grain boards are still very durable and often lighter, making them easier to move around the kitchen. They also show off the wood’s natural grain beautifully, adding a classic look to any workspace. Edge grain boards take less material and labour, making them more affordable.
